Dau Liao, cleaver and me
by Michael McKenzie
I met Lisa’s daughter, Rachel, in France 10 years ago where we attended university together. After Rachel and I completed our studies, Rachel invited me to visit her in Taiwan. I fell in love with Rachel’s family and her country, Taiwan. Since 2001, I have visited Taiwan 7 times, each time discovering new parts of Chinese/Taiwanese culture.
In 2010, Lisa wanted to introduce me to Dau Liau, a traditional type of Chinese medicine. At first, I was intimidated by the idea of using cleaver on my body to release bad chi, but Rachel and Lisa both assured me that Dau Liau is safe, painless and healthy. The process took about two hours. Immediately, after my first Dau Liau session, I felt released. Days after, I noticed an increased level of energy and a general sense of well being. It certainly proved helpful with my triathlon training.
In August 2011, Rachedl and I took a trip to Cambodia. The trip was exciting, but exhausting. My first right back to Taiwan, I slept like a rock. Unfortunately, I slept so well that didn’t move during the night and knotted the muscles in my neck and left shoulder. The next day, I was in terrible pain and couldn’t move my head or left arm. So, Lisa offered to do Dau Liau on me to help relieve the pain.
I was concerned that Dau Liau would cause more pain to my back. Lisa reassured me that I would feel no pain during the treatment. Two hours after the painless but sometimes ticklish experience, I had noticeably improved head/neck mobility and much less pain. The next day, I felt almost completed healed and didn’t need to take western pain-relief medicine. I was truly amazed by how powerful this simple, traditional treatment really is.
I would encourage people to give Dau Liau a try. It helped me both times I did it. So give Dau Liau a chance to see how it can help you!
Thank you, Lisa!
